Description:

“It is with deep regret that I won’t be able to speak at ALA Midwinter. I was so looking forward to spending time with such an esteemed group of people who shape the lives of readers young and old every day.

As a child, librarians changed my destiny. The library introduced me to the first books I fell in love with—the works of Edward Eager, Mary Norton, P.L. Travers, Ray Bradbury, and so many more—and those books saved me. They allowed me to see beyond the confines of my neighborhood. These books, introduced to me through the library, showed me that there was a whole world to explore, that I didn’t know before.

I hope to have another opportunity to speak at an American Library Association conference in the future. My most heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for all of your hard work to put books into the hands of readers!” – Alice Hoffman
