Collection Development: Trending Tools that Stretch Your Budget and Strengthen Your Collection McCormick Place West
W186a
Description :

Libraries tell us that usage and circulation is up, and their buildings are full. It’s also not hard to find examples of libraries that are struggling to match patron need with relevant resources. In this session, learn about the new tools available today that can enhance the services you provide at your library. At this 2-hour Ingram interactive event, libraries will have the opportunity to share what's worked and what hasn't with colleagues, hearing first hand from public libraries about new programs and services that they've developed that are making their libraries more relevant and valued in their communities.

Who We Are, What We Do, Why It Matters: Our Distinctive Purpose [$] Preconference/Institute Renaissance Blackstone
The Train Rooms
Description :

Come learn a simple strategy that will make you, your library, and your profession indispensable for centuries to come! This interactive day (lunch included!) led by Valerie Gross, President & CEO, Howard County (Md.) Library System, will highlight how a growing number of libraries are repositioning themselves as a key component of the education enterprise, alongside schools, colleges, and universities. Implementing this powerful approach is simple. It does not require changing anything you do—only what you say. "Library Journal" calls it “a 21st-century model worthy of study and consideration by every library in America, if not the world.”

Come explore, discuss, and practice proven techniques to:

- Redefine libraries in a new, innovative way;

- Align your library with what the community values most: education;

- Incorporate intuitive, value-enhancing words into your everyday lexicon;

- Heighten your library's visibility and stature; and

- Develop strategies that you can integrate immediately into your work.
